John Kilgore joins the Boise Philharmonic as Principal Trumpet beginning in the 2017-2018 season. Prior to this appointment, he was a member of the Ocala (FL) Symphony Orchestra and a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the trumpet studio at Florida State University. As an active freelance musician, he has performed with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, West Virginia Symphony, Lexington (KY) Philharmonic as well as additional orchestras in the Greater-Cincinnati and Florida regions.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he completed a Bachelor of Music degree at Ohio University, a Master of Music degree at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, and is an ABD Doctoral Candidate in Trumpet Performance at Florida State University. His primary teachers include John Schlabach, Alan Siebert, Philip Collins, and Dr. Christopher Moore. In addition to performing, Mr. Kilgore is a dedicated educator who maintains an active private studio. His students have earned placement at regional and state solo competitions, as well as acceptance into collegiate music programs.
