Audition Repertoire Requirements-Woodwinds

Flute

  1. Scales: Three-octave chromatic scale, all major scales two octaves (three octaves for C major). Scales should be performed from memory, slurred and articulated.
  2. Etudes: Two contrasting etudes, one lyrical and one technical, selected from Melodious and Progressives Studies, Book 1 or 2, ed. Robert Cavally or Altes Etudes.
  3. Solo: A complete solo piece or movement at a proficiency level equivalent to or greater than the following solos:
  • W.A. Mozart, Concerto D or G, first movement;
  • Any pieces from Flute Music by French Composers Collection, ed. Louis Moyse;
  • Other solos from the Texas UIL Prescribed Music List that demonstrate both technical and lyrical playing.

4. Sightreading

Oboe

  1. Chromatic scale from low C to high D; Two-octave, major scales in B-flat, B, C, D-flat, D, E-flat; one-octave major scales E, F, G-flat, G, A-flat, A.  All scales should be performed from memory, slurred and articulated.
  2. Etudes: Two contrasting etudes, one lyrical and one technical, selected from Rubank Advanced Method Vol. 1 and/or Barret Oboe Method.
  3. Solo: A complete solo piece or movement at a proficiency level equivalent to or greater than the following solos:
  • Handel, Oboe Concerto in G Minor or B-flat Major
  • Marcello, Oboe Concerto in D Minor
  • Other solos from the Texas UIL Prescribed Music List that demonstrate both technical and lyrical playing.

Clarinet

  1. Scales: Chromatic scale from low E to altissimo G; All major scales two octaves; three octaves for E, F, and G. All scales should be performed from memory, slurred and articulated.
  2. Two contrasting etudes, one lyrical and one technical, selected from David Hite, Melodious and Progressive Studies Book 1 or 2 , H. Voxman, Rubank Selected Studies for Clarinet, or C. Rose 32 Etudes.
  3. Solo: Prepare a complete solo work or movement at a proficiency level equivalent to the following solos. Solos do no need to be performed with piano accompaniment.
  • W. A. Mozart, Concerto for Clarinet, K. 622
  • H. Rabaud, Solo de Concours
  • C. M. von Weber, Concertino, Concerto No. 1 or No. 2
  • Other solos from the Texas UIL Prescribed Music List that demonstrate both technical and lyrical playing.

Saxophone

  1. Scales: Full-range chromatic scale. All major scales, two octaves; one octave for G and A-flat. Scales should be performed from memory, both slurred and articulated.
  2. Two contrasting etudes, one lyrical and one technical, selected from David Hite, Melodious and Progressive Studies Book 1 or 2 , H. Voxman, Rubank Selected Studies for Saxophone.
  3. Solo: Prepare a complete solo work or movement at a proficiency level equivalent to the following solos. Solos do no need to be performed with piano accompaniment.
  • E. Bozza, Aria
  • A. Glazunov, Concerto (page 1)
  • P. Lacome, Rigaudon
  • Other solos from the Texas UIL Prescribed Music List that demonstrate both technical and lyrical playing.

Bassoon

  1. Chromatic scale, three octaves; all major scales a minimum of two octaves, three octaves for B-flat, B and C. Scales should be performed from memory, both slurred and articulated.
  2. Etudes: One slow and one fast excerpt from Weissenborn Advanced Studies
  3. Solo: A complete solo piece or movement at a proficiency level equivalent to or greater than the following solos:
  • Telemann, Sonata in f minor
  • Fasch, Sonata in C Major
  • Vivaldi sonatas
  • Other solos from the Texas UIL Prescribed Music List that demonstrate both technical and lyrical playing.
